Go back to the past: reconnecting with football

I wrote a short article for the excellent Stand Against Modern Football magazine on going back to the past in an effort to reconnect with your football club.

“You don’t need to travel very far back in time to recapture the magic of proper football. No Sky Sports, no Russian oligarchs, no half-and-half scarves. But to get right to the heart of your football club you need to go right back to the beginning, which for most of us means the late Victorian era. No doubt there will be books you can read about your club’s origins, but it’s much more rewarding to do your own research – browse newspaper archives, look at old maps, search census records – and bring the early days of your club alive.”
